BOYS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Matthew Prociak (6-5 junior forward/center) has helped Holy Redeemer even overall record at 3-3 in the midst of a very challenging schedule.  He netted 24 points as the Royals defeated Lake-Lehman 54-45 last Tuesday.  He then added 19 points in another Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 victory, 55-39 over Greater Nanticoke Area, on Friday.  On Wednesday, the versatile junior contributed 14 points as Holy Redeemer got an impressive buzzer-beating 61-59 win over perennial state powerhouse Loyalsock Township, handing the Lancers their first home loss in over three years.

Harry Johnson (6-5 senior forward) is a key reason that Abington Heights will once again be battling for the Lackawanna League Division 1 championship.  The senior scored 16 points as the Comets upset Scranton on the road Friday night, 45-27.  Then, Monday night in their home-opener, the senior netted 16 points as his team prevailed over another division contender gaining a 46-31 victory over Valley View.

GIRLS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Cecelia Collins (6-0 senior guard) is one of several talented players leading a very experienced Scranton Prep squad.  She scored 16 points as the Classics opened their season with a 71-27 win over Wallenpaupack.  Then in Saturday’s mega-showdown among state 4A powers, she came up with several pivotal defensive plays in the closing moments and matched teammate Rachel Rose in scoring 20 points as her team defeated Dunmore 50-45 on the road.  The Bucknell-bound Division 1 recruit then hit 29 points in a 71-21 win over Western Wayne and added 10 points in a 63-11 win over West Scranton Wednesday night.

Claire Dougherty (6-1 junior forward) has helped Lake-Lehman remain undefeated at 6-0. She scored 4 points as the Lady Knights defeated Holy Redeemer 37-18.  She then netted 28 points including 3 triples in a 47-42 win over Western Wayne.  On Wednesday night, the junior forward contributed 26 points in a 49-35 victory over Tunkhannock to run their Wyoming Valley Conference mark to 3-0.
