BOYS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

 

Jaymire Allen (6-1 senior guard) has been an impact player, leading Carbondale to a 3-0 start on the season.  He scored 31 points in the Chargers’ opening night 64-53 victory over Elk Lake in the annual Mike “Red” Wallace Memorial game.  In the Jerry Finan Memorial Tip-Off Tourney semi-final round game, Allen contributed 19 points in their 54-45 win over Forest City.  The senior guard then netted 23 points in leading Carbondale to a 60-39 championship victory over West Scranton, their first title since 2009.   

 

Zach Perta (5-10 senior guard) has Holy Redeemer off to an undefeated 4-0 start.  He hit 18 points as the Royals advanced to the title game of the inaugural Wilkes-Barre Area Tip-Off Tournament with a 56-45 win over the host Wolfpack.  Perta then contributed 25 points in their come-from-behind 61-56 championship victory over Bethlehem Freedom.  On Thursday evening, the senior guard added 18 points as the Royals defeated Scranton, 51-39.    

 

  

GIRLS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

 

Brianna Kennedy (5-9 senior forward) has helped lead a balanced Hazleton Area lineup to a 4-0 start on the season.  She scored 11 points in their opening night 43-21 win over Abington Heights in their annual Tip-Off Tourney.  She then netted 7 points in a 50-48 championship victory over Nazareth.  In a matchup against highly-regarded Scranton, the senior forward added 16 points as the Lady Cougars defeated the Lady Knights, 57-41.  Friday night at The Mecca, Kennedy scored 16 points in a 54-20 win over Pottsville.          

 

Ella Smith (5-8 sophomore guard) has been steady for Wallenpaupack who is 3-0 on the season.  She scored 19 points in a 46-21 win over Stroudsburg in the opening round of the Hawley Tip-Off Tournament.  The sophomore guard then netted 23 points as the Lady Buckhorns got a 63-31 championship win over East Stroudsburg North.  Smith added 11 points in their 60-22 victory over Lakeland on Thursday night.
