NORTHEAST BEAT (District 2 Season Gets Underway Friday Night)

Written by: on Wednesday, December 6th, 2017

PRE-SEASON EDITION now enters its 18th unbelievable season covering high school hoops across eastern PA.  This year brings some big changes, highlighted by the first major overhaul of the website in, oh, probably 18 years.  It’s a bit of a work-in-progress so check back often for updated posts.  I’ll admit to missing the vintage 19-something parquet floor background wallpaper, but that is certainly offset by some upgrades (drop-down lists rock).  And that’s where you can find the NEP Beat.  Thanks to our tireless webmaster, Dell Jackson, who had the vision and passion to push ahead throughout some of the more challenging days to see LLHoops come back bigger and better than ever.  If you love hoops, be sure you check out some of the other incredible L-L coverage and insight from Andy H (@AndyBrackets).  And, amazing game shots, along with creative web design, is with the talented eye of Kirk N (@KirkNeidermyer).

But, as I’ve said on many occasions, this isn’t about us.  It’s about the players, the coaches, the schools, the rivalries, the atmosphere, and the most loyal fans around.  When I say that we are District 2 proud, it’s not a cliché.  While the 42 high schools form a community which is fiercely competitive, they have repeatedly shown the compassion to have come together to raise over $1.2 million for Coaches vs. Cancer over the last nine seasons.  None of this would be possible (or worthwhile) without everyone who stops by the NEP Beat throughout the year.  For the 18th time and counting, “Thank YOU” – we are all District 2 proud.

Stop back later in the week for some season tip-off pre-game thoughts.  Later in December, boys’ and girls’ division previews will be posted analyzing the races in the Wyoming Valley Conference and Lackawanna League.  As always, we’ll make some predictions on the top favorites and challengers.  Once again, the NEP Beat anticipates a campaign in which many District 2 races will commence without a clear-cut frontrunner.  And, in keeping with our long-time fairness in coverage policy, there are no pre-season Top 10 Ratings to be found here.  Those will debut on January 1 and be updated weekly.

See you in the bleachers!
