District 2 Girls Division Races

In the Wyoming Valley Conference, in Division 1, after starting the season at 17-1 Hazleton Area has been in a bit of a tailspin dropping three of the last five games.  Included in that span was a 52-47 loss to surging Dallas in a playoff game Friday night as the Lady Mounts won the title.  Holy Redeemer completed a 12-0 mark in win Division 2.  In the Lackawanna League, all eyes were on an anticipated 4th meeting between Scranton and Scranton Prep.  But, playing without their D1 freshman recruit Zya Small Friday night, the Lady Knights lost to Western Wayne giving Scranton Prep the inside track to the Division 1 title if they can defeat Valley View on the road Monday night.  North Pocono has wrapped up Division 2Dunmore secured Division 3 with two more game to play and Mountain View took honors in Division 4.

Wyoming Valley Conference Championship Tournament

The post regular season Boy’s and Girls’ 4-team tournament is back matching the top two teams from each division.  Division 2 Champ plays Division 1 Runner-up followed by Division 1 Champ vs. Division 2 Runner-up.  There are still some positions to be finalized on the Boys’ side.  If Dallas defeats Wyoming Valley West Monday night, they will be tied for second place with Hazleton Area and District 2 power rankings will be used to determine which team qualifies for the WVC playoffs.  Wilkes-Barre Area is the Division 1 winner.  In Division 2, Holy Redeemer plays Wyoming Area on Monday evening to determine the division winner and runner-up.  The picture on the Girls’ side is clear with Dallas and Holy Redeemer capturing division titles.  Hazleton Area and Lake-Lehman took the runner-up positions.  The Girls’ semi-finals will be played Tuesday night at Pittston Area (at 6 and 7:30, weather-permitting).  The Boys’ doubleheader will be at Wilkes-Barre Area Thursday night (at 6 and 7:30).  The Championship games will be at Hazleton Area on Saturday afternoon, Girls’ game at 2pm and Boys’ at 4pm.
