Faith Christian 49 Lancaster Country Day 40
1A Boys PIAA – 2nd round
March 12, 2019 @ Govern Mifflin

All basketball teams have an ending….most not planned nor wanted (only 6 teams end at the end of the rainbow), but tonight LCDay ended their season with a close loss in the second round of the PIAA tournament. In their first year in LL, the Cougars finished at 20-5, a tie for second place in Section 5, and a District 3 crown for 1A- not bad…not bad at all.

Faith Christian finished 2nd in the very tough District 1. Faith now has a record of 16-10.

Both teams battled in the first half. There wasn’t much scoring…a lot of up and down and lots of rebounds to be had (Luke Walling, 6’4” sn, had 10 by halftime). Faith started out with some full court traps but could not get into them because, basically, neither team could score – much. Faith led 14-10 with 3:30 to go in the half, but LCday would answer with a put back by Greg Mizil, 6’5” jn, and a big three -ball by Walling. 16-14 at halftime -LCDay’s favor.

Faith’s Darrian Bradford was THE man in the third quarter. Bradford scored the first 5 points of the quarter but the Cougars would answer with a three-ball and a layup to take a brief lead at 21-19. Lance Lennon, 6’2” soph, hit his second three from the deep corner, and Bradley Fry, 6’2” sn, hit 2 foul shots to give LCDay a 28-25 lead. Enter Bradford, again. He pops a three and then scores on a twisting drive as Faith led 30-29 entering the 4th.

The Cougars led once in the 4th at 31-30, only to see Faith pull out to a 4 pt advantage at 35-31. Faith again would pull out to a 6-point lead (39-33). LCDay would cut the lead to 2 pts at 39-37 under 2 minutes. Faith hit their fouls shots down the stretch making 10/11 to clinch the W for Faith Christian.

Stats: unofficial|
Rebounds: LCDay 32, Faith 24
Turnovers: LCday 10, Faith 5
Blocks: Faith 6

Points:
LCDay: Lance Lennon 10
Faith: Darrian Bradford 22, Forker 10

Sidelines….Both teams were evenly match as far as ht on the backline is concerned….Faith appeared to be a bit quicker overall…Faith used 2 ft in the lane on help-side in the first half. …LCday missed a bunch of bunnies but so did Faith….As always we get some different refs with different interpretations (some walks, play-ons, etc) but both teams adjusted…Faith had 6 blocks by different players…Andrew Williams said it was difficult to end his HS career this way, but he was looking forward to trying his hand at the college level… One crazy play tonight: Luke Walling ball faked a defender by putting the ball over his (def) head, then he feeds the post with a bounce pass that goes between another defender’s legs to Bradley Fry for a nice post move……Gov. Mifflin gym has wooden seats. I can remember wayyyyy back when …when the first round of the districts were played there when Reading was seeded….As always good to share time with Mike Gross, LNP, and seeing our own Bruce Badgley preparing to call the PIAA girls finals and checking out some 6A girls games.
