Lancaster Country Day 48 Greenwood 40
Feb. 26, 2019
1A semi finals @ LCDay
The Cougars were looking to get back to the finals. The mostly veteran crew punched the ticket, although with a bit more stress than probably most expected. Coach Schultz told us that Greenwood runs excellent patterns, and their (LCDay) focus was on the defensive end.
LCDay limited Greenwood to perimeter shots in the first half. Both teams had some issues with scoring in the first half. LCDay was up 6-2 seemingly for a 4 minute stretch. Greenwood popped a three (Luke Myers 5’11” sn) late in the quarter.7-5 after one period.
The Cougars would put together a couple of mini runs in period 2. The first run started the second period (posts and follows by Aaron Bollinger (6’1” jn, sandwiched with a Andrew Williams (5’11” sn) drive) put LCDay up 13-5. Later in the period, a three ball by Will Lisk, post by Bollinger, and a drive by Williams put the Cougars up 25-16 at the half.
LCDay scored the first bucket of the third (27-16), but Greenwood would go on an 11-5 mini run (paced by 6 in a row by Aaron Morder 6’3’sn) to cut the lead to 32-27.
LCDay continued to have trouble scoring in the 4th, at least early. Greenwood would make a push and cut the lead to 35-34 with 4 minutes to go. Game on! Enter Andrew Williams. The 1000 point scorer just kept at it. Back to back triples pushed the lead to 41-34 under the 3 minute mark. Greenwood kept battling and used its advantage from the line to cut it to 41-38. However, the Cougars would break the pressure and Williams puts in a layup to basically put the game away.
LCDay: Andrew Williams 26
Greenwood: Luke Myers 16
LCDay moves to 18-4 and will play Wed. 4:30 vs Halifax at the Giant Center.
