In a rare Wednesday LL game, the Blazers rolled over the Tide. LMHS is assured of a slot in the LL playoffs with the win. LMHS is now 10-2 in the LL- tied with Northern Lebanon. Columbia is now 4-8 in the LL.

The Tide started out in a 1-3-1 zone. LMHS took some time to adjust, but they finally attacked the zone from the deep corners and hit the offensive glass. Columbia would take an early 8-3 lead on 2 foul shots by Alex Retamar. The Blazers would unleash the 3-ball and a follow by Ryan Lopez, 6’3” senior. Columbia ended the quarter with a bucket to end the quarter at 15 all.

LMHS would dominate the 2nd quarter. A 17-4 run would basically put the game out of reach. Led by the ball hawking Elijah Terry and an offensive fireworks type of display by John Gillespie (15 in the quarter- and a spectacular twisting drive). The quarter ended at 42- 23 as Ali Roman, 6’3” senior, scored on a put-back at the buzzer. Second quarter stats tell the story as Columbia had 8 turnovers and the Blazers pounded the offensive glass to finish with 13 boards for the quarter.

Coach Groff, LMHS, subbed a bunch in the third and fourth quarter. The Third quarter was very sloppy as neither team could put together any runs. Lots of action but not a lot of points scored. 53-33 after 3. LMHS’ bench increased the final total as they put scored the Tide 19-8.

Points:
Columbia: Matt McCleary 10
LMHS: John Gillespie 19, Elijah Terry 14, Carter Hurst 11

Misc thoughts…LMHS’ gym is amazing loud. The JV game was very close and the gym was very very loud even though not even close to being half full. …LMHS’ guard play was outstanding- 3 guards who can handle and score in various ways. Lightning-quick Elijah Terry, 5’9” soph, caused a lot of issues for Columbia as he would poke the ball away from the dribbler and start a break. Carter Hurst, 5’10” senior, is just solid. Gillespie is a scoring machine – period…Spent some time with Coach Connors of ELCO before the game. His team is on the edge of a D3 berth…Coach Groff-going old school- sat on the bench for most of the game. Coach Glover, Columbia, started there but then got up to encourage his team 🙂

Next up:
LMHS has 2 big time games. Friday Northern Lebanon comes to town- both tied for 2/3rd J Next Tuesday the Blazers travel to Lancaster Cath (unbeaten in LL play).

Columbia takes on ELCO Friday. Olley Valley on Saturday. Columbia @ PValley Tuesday.
