McCaskey 60 Cedar Crest 58
Feb 1, 2019

Mr. Mo took turns on both sides of the floor tonight. Crest would run out to a 20-4 lead after one period. OK…20-4 and McCaskey score the first basket and their next bucket at the 2:36 mark on a jumper by Bryam Menendez. Jaquan Andino scored the last 3 points for the Falcons.

Second Quarter…Falcons score3d the first 5 points by Logan Horn to take a 25-4 lead early in the period. Brian McKenzie, McCaskey’s spark plug, scored 7 points in the quarter to kind of balance the knock out punches that the Falcons were dealing (not literally). The Quarter ended at 35-21.

Third quarter…Crest again would score the first points of the period (4 by #5). Horn pops a three ball to take a 42-25 lead in the middle of the quarter. McCaskey used a 2-3 zone for most of the 2nd half…all of a sudden, the Tornado found some footing, out-rebounding the Falcons 9-8 in the quarter. ..and a run. 9 zip to be exact. Melendez and Isaiah Thomas (6’ jn) doing the damage. Jashan Greaves (McCaskeys only player over 6 ft) started to score in the post- hit the last 2 shots for McCaskey as the period ended. 46-38.

4th Quarter…Crest would again score the first points of the period (Andino). Ajani Simmons scored 2 buckets to cut the lead to 51-45 and, well, game on. Greaves hits back to back buckets under the 3:30 mark to make it a 2 point game (51-49 Crest). McKenzie hits a three ball for the Tornado and the gym was going crazy. 52-51 McCaskey. Now we go back and forth. Crest by 1..McCaskey scores on a sweet spin move by McKenzie. Crest gets to the line and makes 4 foul shots to take a 57-54 lead with 1:40 to go. Jumper by Simmons cuts the lead to 1. Eberhart makes one of 2 foul shots as Crest is up by 2 at 58-56. Who else but McKenzie gets the ball and drives to the bucket for a tie. Crest timeout. Crest is playing for the last shot but gets called for a 5 second call. McCaskey ball in front of visitors bench with 2.4 seconds left. Timeout McC. The Tornado throws the ball up to in front of their bench, but Crest knocks it out of bounds. 2.2 ticks. Timeout McCaskey. Who gets the last shot? Makai Ortiz-Gray of course- he of zero points till this point of the game. Drives left. Banker for a W…pig pile soon after the shot. McCaskey capped off a 22-12 fourth quarter with the final bucket being the game winner.

Looking ahead…
Crest holds a one game lead over TWP (69-66 OT winner vs Penn Manor Friday) and 1 plus game lead over McCaskey,

McCaskey plays Ephrata at home and Hempfield on the road in its last 2 LL games.
TWP Travels to Crest for its last LL game on Tuesday.
Crest plays TWP in its last game at home Tuesday.

I believe LLhoops will be covering the game Tuesday evening. A Crest win will clinch the Section 1 crown. A TWP win will give us a playoff game for the Section no matter what McCaskey does in its last 2 games.

A TWP loss and McCaskey sweeps its last 2 games, would put us in the dreadful tie-breaker situation. McCaskey would hold the third tiebreaker as they would have a W vs. Crest. …unofficial of course.

A TWP win and McCaskey wins 2, would give us a 3 way tie. In this case, a coin flip would determine what team would get a bye into the finals.

Stay tuned to LLhoops for the final break downs.:)

Hempfield cannot catch TWP.
