Penn Manor 63 Cocalico 60
The Comets and Eagles both came into the game unbeaten. The Comets were 1-0 in a victory over Donegal. The Cocalico Eagles were fresh off a tourney win at CV.
The Comets were hot early as Ty Erisman and Kevin Roldan hit three- balls: up 11-0 to start at the 5- minute mark of quarter 1. The Eagles called timeout and settled down a bit. A three-ball by Peyton Stetter pulled the Eagles to 19-13 only to see an answer by Anthony Rosario with his own three-ball. 21-13 after 1.
The paced slowed down in the 2nd quarter. Neither team made major runs, but the Comets again would score at the end of the period- this time a three-ball by Jakob Matias. 31-23 at the break.
Penn Manor would put together an 8-2 run to start the quarter. The Eagles would answer after a timeout with a few three-balls to cut the lead to 44-34. However, the Comets would continue to score at the buzzer as Rosario would hit a twisty, turny layup with time running out. PM 46-34 after three.
The Comets spread the floor in the 4th. Cocalico countered with full and half court traps. The Eagles turned the Comets over 4 times in the period to close the gap. Two times the Eagles pulled to within 4 points (59-54 61-57), but PM made most of their fouls shots down the stretch to secure the win.The Eagle’s Stetter hit a three-ball at the buzzer to end the scoring at 63-60.
Rebounds : PM 19 , Cocalico 18
Turnovers: PM 15, Cocalico 17
Blocks: Cocalico 3
PM: Ty Erisman 15, Kevin Roldan 31
Cocalico: Peyton Stetter 19, Connor Mack 15, Ben Karbe 10
The Comets are very fast. They run their sets well and have multiple players that can dribble drive. The home crowd helped with their energy J. They are a small bunch but yet battled the taller Eagles to even on the boards.
The Eagles missed a bunch of “bunnies” and missed a bunch of free throws. The turnover bug got them in the second half (13). If the Eagles can cut down on some turnovers and shoot a higher % from the line, they should be in the hunt for a Section 3 slot.
All LL teams will play another LL team from another section that will not count on LL standings- such as PM (1) playing Cocalico (3).
