LL Recap Dec 26-Jan 1

Written by: Dell Jackson on January 1, 2019

The week that was…

Tournaments all over the place! Check here for scores.

Congrats to Penn Manor for winning the Solanco tournament. TWP wins 2 at State College beating Germantown and State College on a major road trip. Tyler Crespo breaks the 1500 point mark.  LS gets 2 W’s at Etown’s triple header of sorts. The Pioneers also break into Mike Bullock’s PIAA rankings at #9 in 5A. LS’ head man, Ed Berryman, told LLhoops that LS ‘ owed CD one ‘ as the Pioneers avenged their only L vs. then unbeaten Central Dauphin.

Hempfield fell to Wilson in their finals. The Bulldogs defeated Reading HS earlier in the week. Wilson has now established itself as a 6A contender for the District 3 crown.

Octorara split this past week. The Braves lost a classic 2OT final game to host Shippensburg. The Braves had a 5 point lead at one point in the first overtime, but Ship hit a three ball and converted a turnover to put the game into the second OT.

Andy’s coverage included:

Lebanon/Crest

Cedar Cliff/Donegal

Lancaster Cath/Warwick

Spot/Warwick

Dell was basically sidelined due to family obligations 🙂 Tis’ the season.

Looking ahead…
The LL is finally cranking up league games within the Sections this week. Mostly 🙂

LL schedules are posted a week ahead of time on the main menu of llhoops.com  under the scores section.

We have 2 special events this coming weekend- Jan 5th. Schedules below

Battle of the Roses Schedule
Rhoades Classic at  LVC

Etown at Warwick on Jan 5th is shaping up as a big game for both teams. The Bears have played a very difficult non-league schedule. They are coming in at 2-2 in LL play. The Warriors pulled off 3 W’s in one week vs. Section 1 foes and are 4-0 in LL play. They lost 2 in their tournament this weekend to Spot and Lancaster Catholic.

With a Warwick W, the Warriors would be in excellent shape and have a nice cushion over others in the section. With an Etown W, the Bears would be one game off the pace.

LLhoops is scheduled to live stream ELCO vs. Octorara Jan. 5th. Our Alvernia crew will be producing. Behind the mic will be Eric Thomas and Warren Goodling. We are hoping to have all technical difficulties taken care on this production. The game will be live at about 7:15. Click HERE for the live link

Misc thoughts…
Teams are starting to establish who is and who is not, but…We should know a lot more in the next few weeks as teams play each other in section play.

Warren Goodling supplies us with some coaching insights. His latest “First 10 games

Top 7…are posted…will try to update this list about every other week.

Twitter…All twitter handles are growing. Seems like this is the way to get the word out. Thanks to all followers for helping us with scores on game day. @Llhoops, @AndyBrackets @BadleyBruce @BPtashinski @LLhoopsNEPbeat continue grow our brand locally and across the state.

Special thanks to Mike Bullock ( @thebullip_n ) for allowing LLhoops to post his PIAA boys rankings. The Rankings have added a lot of hits to our site.

Site updates….we are averaging about 20,000 page views a week. We should see that uptick as the season progresses, and we head to playoffs.

Special thanks to all our advertisers: We certainly would not be able to live stream games without their support. We are looking into possibly live stream some LL play-off games but will need some help if we do.

LL trivia: What was the last year that Warwick played in the LL tournament?

Happy New Year from our staff to all!
